Boy, do faculty hate grading crappy student papers! The moaning and the gnashing of teeth starts mid-semester and carries on through finals every year. I sincerely wish these folks would take a little time out to figure out a better way. Calibrated Peer Review is one way that comes to mind, or some variant of it.
